Due to circumstances beyond their control, Tom and Cathy had to wait one year after their Houston wedding before taking their honeymoon trip.  But it was well worth the wait.  Tom and Cathy spent three days at the Grand Canyon in Arizona (October 11-13, 2000).  For all you Filipinos out there, NO this is NOT a big gun!!!  As the pictures on this page attest, the Grand Canyon is a fabulous place.  It is truly one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  Over millions of years the Colorado river has eroded the largest valley in the world.  The elevation of the south rim of the canyon is 7,000 feet (2,130 meters) above sea level but the elevation of the Colorado river is only 2,400 feet (730 meters).  Thus, the river is almost a full mile (4,600 feet = 1,400 meters) below the rim!  Also, the canyon is an average of 10 miles (16 kilometers) wide.  Our feeling when viewing the Grand Canyon was of immense space and the slow passing of the ages.  The Grand Canyon has existed for millions of years and it will be here long after we're all gone.  We hope you enjoy the pictures!

Help!, I'm stuck in a tree.  This picture was taken at Cedar Ridge on the South Kaibab trail.  This was our turn-around point.  We hiked a total distance of 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) and descended a vertical distance of 1,150 feet (350 meters).  It took us 1.5 hours to hike in and 2.5 hours to hike out.

This looks like a 19th century naturalistic painting but it isn't!  At dusk the Grand Canyon changes character.  It becomes a magical dreamscape painted using the palette of God.
