Translation Notes

Two new symbols are introduced which are J and K.  Lines 1 - 16 contain the symbol J and lines 17 - 32 contain the symbol K.  Taking line #1 we have CD followed by F followed by DD followed by J followed by CDD followed by E.  We can translate this as:

2, 3 J 6 =    or    2 J 3 = 6

Clearly the symbol J represents multiplication.  Taking line #17 we have CDD followed by F followed by CD followed by K followed by DD followed by E.  We can translate this as:

6, 2 K 3 =    or    6 K 2 = 3

Clearly the symbol K represents division.  Lines #8 and #16 demonstrate that zero multiplied by any number equals zero.  Lines #7 and #15 demonstrate that one multiplied by any number equals that number.  Lines #23 and #31 demonstrate that any number divided by one equals itself.  Lines #24 and #32 demonstrate that any non-zero number divided by itself equals one.  The complete English translation of page #5 is as follows:

  1.) 2 X 3 = 6
  2.) 3 X 2 = 6
  3.) 3 X 3 = 9
  4.) 4 X 3 = 12
  5.) 3 X 4 = 12
  6.) 5 X 7 = 35
  7.) 5 X 1 = 5
  8.) 4 X 0 = 0
  9.) 6 = 2 X 3
10.) 6 = 3 X 2
11.) 9 = 3 X 3
12.) 12 = 4 X 3
13.) 12 = 3 X 4
14.) 3 X 4 = 2 X 6
15.) 7 = 1 X 7
16.) 0 = 0 X 10
17.) 6 / 2 = 3
18.) 6 / 3 = 2
19.) 9 / 3 = 3
20.) 12 / 4 = 3
21.) 12 / 3 = 4
22.) 35 / 5 = 7
23.) 5 / 1 = 5
24.) 4 / 4 = 1
25.) 3 = 6 / 2
26.) 2 = 6 / 3
27.) 3 = 9 / 3
28.) 3 = 12 / 4
29.) 4 = 12 / 3
30.) 12 / 4 = 6 / 2
31.) 7 = 7 / 1
32.) 1 = 6 / 6
