Translation Notes

Again, page #3 has 32 lines which seems to be a standard of the extraterrestrials of 47 Ursae Majoris.  Again, the equals sign (symbol E) comes at the end of each line.  Lines 1 - 16 use the unary digit (symbol B) while lines 17 - 32 use the binary digits (symbols C and D).  Line #1 contains 2 B's, 1 F, 3 B's, the symbol G, 5 B's, the symbol E, and the terminator A.  The symbol G must represent addition.  The aliens' mathematical notation is post-fix with the operators coming after the operands.  Thus, two plus three equals five is written as:

2, 3 + 5 =

If we consider line #20 we have: CCD (binary 100), F (comma), DD (binary 11), G (plus sign), DDD (binary 111), E (equals), and A (terminator).  This can be represented as:

4, 3 + 7 =    or more commonly expressed as 4 + 3 = 7

Another thing to note is that lines 23, 24, 27, and 28 establish the integer zero which is denoted by a single C.  The complete English translation of page #3 is as follows:

  1.) 2 (unary) + 3 (unary) = 5 (unary)
  2.) 3 (unary) + 2 (unary) = 5 (unary)
  3.) 3 (unary) + 3 (unary) = 6 (unary)
  4.) 4 (unary) + 3 (unary) = 7 (unary)
  5.) 3 (unary) + 4 (unary) = 7 (unary)
  6.) 1 (unary) + 4 (unary) = 5 (unary)
  7.) 4 (unary) + 1 (unary) = 5 (unary)
  8.) 1 (unary) + 1 (unary) = 2 (unary)
  9.) 8 (unary) = 5 (unary) + 3 (unary)
10.) 8 (unary) = 3 (unary) + 5 (unary)
11.) 9 (unary) = 7 (unary) + 2 (unary)
12.) 9 (unary) = 2 (unary) + 7 (unary)

26.) 8 (binary) = 3 (binary) + 5 (binary)
27.) 5 (binary) = 5 (binary) + 0 (binary)
28.) 11 (binary) = 0 (binary) + 11 (binary)

Concepts Learned on Page #3

Symbol G is the plus sign (addition)
Post-fix notation (X plus Y is denoted X, Y +)
Addition is commutative (X + Y and Y + X equal the same thing)
Concept of zero (zero plus any number equals that number)
